Styling is key!
Styling is so important for any form of shoot. It really pushes the images up a level. If you look at the images in this particular shoot, you see how the rich browns and yellow's fit right in with the background. It looks incredible.
Make the effort for a family photoshoot.
Really, make the effort to match-up wardrobe colours for family pictures. It looks so good!!
Avoid bright colours, branding and patterns.
- Bright colours: The age of the "Benneton" ad is so yesteryear!
- Branding: It often looks garish and also ages images. What you can do is bring an extra shirt so the kids can get a few pictures in what they want to wear.
- Patterns: These often clash in the images. The don't come across well at all. It's a no no unless it's a very subtle pattern.
- Don't dress the same! It looks weird.
- Jeans and white t-shirt? The 90's called, they are wondering where you are?
Family photoshoot Wardrobe do's
- Matchup colours
- Browns for nature shoots, yellows can also work well
- Whites and pastels for a beach shoot - Avoid bright colours
- Pastels always work well
- Men, yes you! Listen to your wife, she will make you look fantastic on a shoot. Leave your favourite T-Shirt behind!!
We shot in Cape Town:
The pictures were shot at the Alphen Greenbelt here in Cape Town. I love shooting here because kids love it. They quickly forget there is a camera around. I also like to keep it as natural as possible. I will direct but I'll keep it to a minimum and usually inline with what they are doing, anyway. It makes for gorgeous natural images.
