Winter Wedding at Molenvliet: Daniel & Rachel’s beautiful Celebration
Why a Winter Wedding?
When most people plan a wedding, they picture a warm summer day. But Daniel and Rachel’s wedding at Molenvliet shows just how incredible a winter wedding can be. Having shot many winter wedings, I've experienced this more than once.
The light in winter is gorgeous. It has a softness to it that we as photographers dream about. Also, the "good" light in summer happens when the reception is well under way. Funny enough, I’ve had more rainy weddings in summer than in winter. Add to that the lower costs and the chance of booking your dream venue without a year-long wait is also a big plus.
Winter weddings in Cape Town are amazing. The vineyards are still beautiful even though the leaves have gone, the sun behaves a little better, and there’s a calmness to the season that makes everything feel more intimate.
Rachel and Daniel's people!
From the groomsmen shoot to the bridesmaids prep with Rachel, the energy was fun, this kind of vibe makes for the best photos. I've always connected easily with people, and when that energy is there on both sides, the results speak for themselves.
What makes a good photo isn’t just technical skill. It's a sense of comfort, that brings trust and a shared excitement.
Lighting the First Dance
For their first dance, I set up off-camera flashes, as I always do. Molenvliet is perfect for this kind of lighting setup because it has the space. Also, the reception was setup perfectly! I captured such beautiful and emotiona images of the two of them dancing while their guests looked on. How perfect wouldn't you say?
Think winter!
If you’re planning a wedding and thinking winter might not be the right time, I’d say look again. Cape Town in winter has its own kind of magic, it really does!
